Andrea is a speech therapist who completed her undergraduate degree at UCT and Masters degree at WITS with her dissertation focused on the causes of feeding difficulties in infants under 18 months.
Andrea's early career was spent working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and it was around this time that she was exposed to Makaton and its benefits for children with a range of communication difficulties.
Andrea took a position lecturing in the Department of Speech Pathology at WITS University where she taught, supervised and furthered her knowledge and understanding of paediatric neurogenic and neurobehavioural language impairments and feeding disorders in young children.
In 2015, she completed the Makaton tutor training and has been fortunate to train a number of parents and professionals in Makaton to enhance communication and interaction in children with communication. difficulties.
At the end of 2015, Andrea left WITS University and started Thrive Therapy Services, a private practice where she sees a variety of children with speech, language and feeding challenges.
